Download only existing tags
After cleaning up a terrible glut of useless tags, I would prefer to only download tags that already exist in my library when downloading metadata.
Is this easily possible? |

Not that I know of. There are plugins that can help you clean tags, though.

If you are using calibre get metadata for existing books you can disable get tags as part of that process. But you can't suppress adding tags within add books
|

Thanks for the answer. Too bad, really.
I found the included tag management very good actually, but I will have a look at plugins. I still think this would be a really useful feature. Not to be a complainer though, Calibre is really awesome.  EDIT: Yeah, I guess I will do that, adding those few tags on my own is easy enough. Thanks.

select any book,go to edit metadata, lick on the cog wheel icon next to download metadata, and choose what is included/excluded for downloads.
if you are in the right place you get a screen called configure metadata download there may be other ways to configure this - I did it so long also I forget how, but tags never download when I get metadata for newly added books. |

@hamja - you can limit which metadata items are downloaded for each source. Many people limit the downloading of tags to one source - Goodreads seems to popular.
