bricked Glo HD

Hello,

I tried to install a hack. Now my Glo HD is in a boot loop.
It is not possible to turn the reader of.

Is there any SD Card image available?

this SOLUTION works for me

from another forum:

- Ensuring the device is off by holding the power button down for at least 20 seconds.
- Turn the device on but hold the button down.
- Tap both the bottom corners of the screen.
- When the restoring message is displayed, let the power button go.

I dont't know why I cannot find this information on the kobo website

It looks like this is a factory reset sequence. Considering how much Kobo support wants you to factory reset, it should be readily available, especially now that the paperclip hole is no longer a feature of the design.

It's not? One of the pics on Kobo's web site show one next to the USB port.

Kobo's help for the Glo HD has...
Quote:
Performing a manual factory reset

If a basic reset and a factory reset don't work, you can try a manual factory reset to restore your eReader to its original settings. After a manual factory reset, you'll need to set up and sync your eReader again. Before you perform a manual factory reset, charge your eReader for at least four hours.
  1. If possible, turn off your eReader.
  2. Note: If your eReader doesn't turn off, try pressing and holding the power button until you see Powered off on your screen.
  3. Insert a paper clip into the small hole beside the Micro USB slot and push gently.
  4. You'll feel a click and your eReader will reset itself.
  5. When you see square icons on the screen, insert a paper clip into the small hole beside the Micro USB slot and push gently.
  6. Repeat step 3 two more times.
  7. Your eReader's screen will turn black, and show a Critical error message. Don't worry, this is normal.
  8. Tap the check mark icon at the bottom of the screen to reset your eReader.

The finger tap method has been mentioned on MR a few times.

My Glo HD has a paperclip reset hole. But, it is not used for a factory reset.`

Far to many interruptions at work.

And I couldn't help wondering what the forum was and if their source was my post here. Though I think my original post didn't say to hold the power button down.

Does every of these factory resets methods has the same result? They initialize ereader from scratch? Or maybe the factory reset from settings menu just clears ebooks and settings? I'm just curious.

The clue is in the name: "Factory Reset". No matter how you start it, a factory reset always takes you back to that fresh from the factory state. Though it doesn't clean the screen.

The only other reset is using the pinhole. That forces a restart of the device. Nothing should be lost.

The paperclip reset hole can be used for factory reset. You just have to use it up to five times at the right moment, before nickel starts but after the init script checks whether nickel started.

But of course, depending on the mod that does no longer work. The finger tap on power on always works, unless you messed with the boot loader.

Of course. A little indirect and unreliable for my liking.

But the multitude of recovery options on the Kobo is exemplary.

Many other brands offer no recovery options at all, you bricked, you're screwed.

Oops. Actual inspection of an actual Glo HD show that there is an actual paperclick hole there. I must have been actually confused as to what was actually present or not.

From the Kobo help page:

Insert a paper clip into the small hole beside the Micro USB slot and push gently.
You'll feel a click and your eReader will reset itself.

Repeat step 3 two more times.
Your eReader's screen will turn black, and show a Critical error message. Don't worry, this is normal.
Tap the check mark icon at the bottom of the screen to reset your eReader.
Does the above not work?
