You expect us to know what Loquendo is? I certainly don't know - never heard of it.

Just because I was curious.
"Loquendo is a multinational computer software technology corporation, headquartered in Torino, Italy, that provides speech recognition, speech synthesis, speaker verification and identification applications."

Quick Google search tells me that I still don't know anything about how to answer the OP.

At least you tried. The other replies here were a bit snippy I thought!

I am not familiar with the brand you mentioned, but I'm fairly sure the old Kindle Keyboard has speech synthesis built in. I'm not at home, so can't check mine. They are available fairly regularly on eBay.

The K3 does indeed have speech synthesis, but it's nowhere near as good as that available on modern tablets. The OP has still not answered the question about what it is he's looking for (eInk device, tablet, Smartphone, PC, etc) so we are still not in a position to be able to answer the question. We can't answer questions if the questioner does not provide enough information, and then ignores requests for clarification.

I remember many years ago when the publishers insisted on being able to decide on a book-by-book basis whether to allow text-to-speech or not, and the Kindles honoured that system. The publishers were afraid of cutting into their audiobook sales. Does it still work that way on Kindles, or can you use TTS on whatever book you're reading?

And are publishers still setting the "Don't Allow Text-to-Speech" flag in ebooks, or have they backed off that?

Some allow it, some don't. Look at a few Kindle books yourself on Amazon's web site; "TTS Enabled" is one of the items of information shown for every book.

Thanks, that's pretty easy to check. I tried a few of my favourite authors, and I didn't see "Not enabled" until the fourth or fifth one. I went to google play, where I usually shop, and noticed that they have a "Read Aloud" feature, that may or may not be enabled. I never noticed it before, but it looks like google follows the same restrictions as amazon.

It's trivial to get around, of course; just convert the book in Calibre.

That's what I figured, but it's good to have it confirmed.

No need to convert it -- in order to convert, you need a DeDRMed book, and IIRC the DeDRM will also remove the TTS block.
