Change Calibre output folder
If there is no way to change the Calibre output folder after it first runs, the program is completely unusable for me.
Anybody know how to change that setting? |

On the Calibre Library icon in the toolbar, you can select "Switch/Create Library..." and it will give you options to create new libraries anywhere you want, access libraries already stored there, or move your current library to any new location.

It will go into the folder for the book record in the library. There is no way to get around that, as calibre does not and will never allow you to choose your own library organization.
You can use the command-line utility "ebook-convert" and specify the input/output files, however. See here for the documentation: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cli/ebook-convert.html |

How to Change the Converted Books folder
Eschwartz told you the solution, but I wanted to expand on it a little bit. Open up Preferences, Interface/Toolbar, choose Main Toolbar, move the "Choose Library" icon to the right side to add it to the Main Toolbar, and then click Apply and Close. On the Main Toolbar, click Choose Library, type in the path of the folder you want to use for converted books, check the "Move current library to new location" or "Create an empty library at the new location." Then your converted books will be placed into the folder you specified.

Q: You mean leave the main Calibre library and books in c:\users\pzbrawl\calibre\author1\book1\ etc. but the results of a conversion to go to a different folder? (Windows-speak) Q: Why? Q: I use the CLI and caliber-db to sweep all my epubs from the sub-sub-sub-folders to a single flat folder. Could you do that or even just copy manually? |

pzbrawl -- since you have shown up again I will assume you are still amenable to further discussion.
![]() Have you seen Worldwalker's highly informative post on the matter? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=934768 If the library structure is still not a good enough solution for your needs, you can probably still make use of the CLI conversion backend, possibly with scripts/drop targets to automate it. Or use calibre's Save to Disk feature to update a filesystem-based organization. If you are positive calibre just isn't for you... well, sorry to hear it, and I hope you have a decent alternative. (I am not sure there are any really good conversion alternatives...). Certainly we are all grateful you didn't try to tell us calibre itself is fundamentally unusable (and yes we have had a few of those cranks ![]() ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 06-12-2015 at 03:05 PM. |

No, I can't use Calibre
I understand you want Calibre to succeed.
It is not useful for me. |

Can you clarify what it is that you want to do? It's unclear (to me, at least) from your earlier posts. Do you mean that you want to change the location of your Calibre library, or that you want to change where a book goes when you do a format conversion?
