Question How to open Kobo Aura?

Hello,

I'm new here and I'm looking for anyone that has cracked open their Kobo Aura to replace the battery. Mine is almost 2 years old and will only hold a charge for an hour or so.

Kobo tech support basically told me to buy a new one which seems awfully wasteful.

I have pried at the flush bezel but it hasn't come loose.

Thanks,

Arathar

I'll give it a try...

The flush bezel makes it tough to get underneath it without damaging the surrounding plastic.

Thanks!

Stiff guitar pick is what I used to open my ereaders. Good shape for the job with relative sharp edge (helps) compared to credit card that I have also used.

a battery compartment on the back of the device so that it was easy to change the battery when it needed replacing would have been nice, don't you agree?

best wishes koboy.

There are plenty of cellphones available without replaceable batteries. The Sony I have had, for example.

Makers of electronics make decisions based on economics.

In fact, I'm stuck to think of an e-reader that does have a replacement battery.

@OP: Are you using any firmware modifications? Any chance something eats battery in the background?

hi, i have never had or ever will have a cellphone where i can't replace the battery, regarding e-reader i don't have any choice none of the decent e-readers give you the option to replace the battery if one did i would buy it in an instant.

best wishes koboy.

I charge my phone every day to 2nd day at most. Obviously that battery is going to fail much sooner than my e-reader which gets charged likely every couple of weeks or longer even with regular use. For that reason alone I'd expect my phone to allow battery replacement and I'm fine with my e-reader not having.

hi, i'm glad you have no problem with not being able to easily replace the battery on your e-reader, everyone will have their own opinion on these things as with anything in life, thanks for responding.

best wishes koboy.

hi, i agree with you not only is it wasteful it's also very annoying why should you have to buy a brand new e-reader when the one you already have is working perfectly fine it's not your fault the battery isn't easily replaceable.
