Paperwhite vs KindleFire
Lost my Paperwhite (long story involving jail and deportation from African country) but still have my old Kindle 2. Should I replace Paperwhite with another Paperwhite or a Kindle Fire (very similar price here in Australia). I travel internationally a lot so battery time is important and I am getting older so clarity of screen also. Appreciate any advice

If battery life is important you'll want to go eInk (Paperwhite). If you use the Fire for any decent amount of time you'll be charging it every day or two.

You should go with the Paperwhite. As others have already noted, it has much better battery life than the Fire. You might be able to get a couple of days with the Fire HD, if you're not a heavy user. You'll get weeks with the PW. Plus, I would imagine there isn't much of a different in screen quality when it comes to reading (the 6" Fire HD has 256 ppi while the PW has 212 ppi).

I have had a fire and I prefer, my Nexus 7 2013 to the Fire. I do not like the Fire's interface. I read on the Nexus using the Kindle app and it is good. I just received my PW2 and I now prefer the read on the PW2 over the Kindle app on my Nexus, why? Eye stress I have issues with my eyes and I can only read on the tablet about 30 minutes before I get a headache. I can read on the PW2 for over an hour at a time with no strain

As people have said, if battery life is your main concern, then the Paperwhite has the Fire beat by a mile (1.609344 kilometers)
![]() If you plan on doing anything besides reading (web browsing or anything involving video), you really have no choice but to go with the Fire. |

There is a lot to be said for getting a single purpose device. I don't mind reading on my Fire HD 6, it's very nice and doesn't cause me any strain, but I greatly prefer to read on my eink readers. And the Fire HD 6 has a battery that drops fast if you like to play a few hands of Solitaire or some other simple games. Then there is the fun slow down when you turn on the wifi and the Fire HD becomes a snail.
Those are the 2 biggest draw backs to the Fire, battery life and slowness. I'll have to compare my mother's Fire HD 6 next weekend, and see if it's just mine. She uses hers just to read, I think. |

I thought so. new battery in the light saber time.
back to devices, one other showstopper is wanting to read outdoors. only e-ink readers are usable in sunlight. and only one make currently works safely in pouring rain/ underwater |

I would love to have a 6" waterproof reader, whether from Kobo or Amazon. I had the Kobo HD but found the size larger than desired. |
