Modifying the T68 Sleep and Power Off Screens

I wanted to change my T68 so that when it is sleeping or off, the splash screen shows my contact details. This is just in case I leave it somewhere; people will know who it belongs to and how to contact me.

I copied the file /system/framework/framework-res.apk off my T68 to a Linux box. Using the jar tool, I unpacked the APK file:

jar vxf framework-res.apk

In the assets/images folder there are two files: standby-1.bmp and shutdown.bmp. They are 1440x1080 landscape greyscale images.

To replace them, I created two portrait 1080x1440 images with my photo and contact details. I rotated them clockwise to be in landscape format and saved them as greyscale BMP files, overwriting standby-1.bmp and shutdown.bmp.

Using the jar tool, I updated these two images in the framework-res.apk file:

jar uvf framework-res.apk assets/images/shutdown.bmp assets/images/standby-1.bmp

Using Root Explorer, I mounted the /system/framework folder read-write, and copied in the new framework-res.apk file. Then I rebooted the T68.

Whith the last version of firmware, it's more easy.

In the default explorer of the reader, you click on a jpg for a while, and in the menu context, click on "set as power off/sleep image"

I not remember the exact words, but it's similar to it.

hi,

tat sounds great, is it also possible to show kind of a screenshot of the sctual screen instead of any other image file.

i had this suggestion https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=259266

once, that the m96 should go asleep with its actual scren to have it sit besides you and still beein able to read the last page that you opened.

? any ideas to that?

Nice work DoctorWkt

After doing this mod on my T68, it shows the new custom Power Off- and Sleepscreen but the bootanimation (with the progress indicator) is still using the old Power Off picture.
Is this also the case on your device?

Yes, that is the case. I don't mind about that, I only wanted the sleep screen to have an image with me and my contact details, in case I lose the device. cheers, Warren
