Kobo Delivery costs (& other stuff) in the UK

After twenty minutes & two phone calls, Kobo inform me that delivery costs & carrier used in the UK is a trade secret. They will not furnish you with such information unless you sign up for an account. I haven't even decided between this & a Kindle yet!
They also gave me two answers regarding guarantee length because apparently the UK may or may not be in Europe. No really, so if you are in the UK & bought a Kobo (direct FROM Kobo) recently & would be willing to break the code of silence & tell me what the delivery charges were. If you had delivery options, who the carrier was & how long your guarantee is (1yr or 2yrs) - I swear I won't snitch on you to Kobo customer service

I'd actually suggest just buying one from WH Smith's as it sounds like it'd be far easier...

Being that there are quite a few retail stores in the UK that sell Kobo's it might be hard to find someone that ordered directly from Kobo. In the US where there are few retail places to get them yet many still avoid ordering from Kobo and get them through a Canadian retailer's website. (FWIW I got my Aura HD, in the US, directly from Kobo without issues)

I tried checking for you using a VPN set to UK, but the site gave me problems (in the US at least you can go through the checkout process and find out shipping costs without actually ordering or having an account).

I logged into my Kobo account to check what delivery charge it would quote me, but when I click on the link to by a Kobo ereader it then asks if I want to add a cover, and immaterial of whether I say yes or no, it then it tells me my basket is empty.... so I go back and add in a Glo HD, and, yes, you guessed it, my basket is empty again - it's a never-ending loop.

So sorry, can't help, hopefully someone else will be able to!

That's what I got using a VPN to make it think I was in the UK too.

At least it's not just me then! It's somewhat frustrating to say the least.

Along with the seemingly pointless linking of my Kobo account to Facebook, I have just got myself ever so slightly annoyed with the Kobo website and deactivated my account.

I'll probably go back in a few days and re-register as I'll have forgotten just how annoyed I was 5 minutes ago when trying to add a Glo HD to my basket.

Really appreciate you trying
I made a fake account after despairing that anyone would actually answer the question I asked. Same deal as you, it was doing this before I made the account too & on the phone they just kept saying clear your cookies (3 different browsers too). Nice to see their customer service is as rubbish as Amazon.
Do you know what the guarantee period is by any chance or do you just use them for books?

Hi emmabee, thing is, I do not think you can by an e-ink device from Kobo direct. If you click on "where to buy" (this link) you only get the tablets, and for those there is free shipping with 7-10 days delivery. But for e-ink you must use some other store, e.g. pixmania, Argos, WH Smith among others.

'Must use some other store' Kobo don't agree with you.
Why is the top option that Kobo gives under where to buy in the UK Kobo itself?
Why on the phone did Kobo say I could buy directly from them specifically in the UK & specifically an aura H20? They just told me it was my cookies causing the problem.

And why do they have a buy it now button & a shopping trolley? Plus the price they give it to you in is in pounds sterling right above the buy it now button which is directly next to the box for you to alter quantity.

WHSmith, Pixmania & Argos are 'among others' really? See below

Taken from Kobo website the list of approved stockists

Quote:
United Kingdom

Kobo
Argos (won't let me order for home delivery where I live)
Eason & Sons Limited (this is Irish)
Harvey Norman Ireland (this is Irish)
JD Williams (doesn't stock it)
Pixmania (based in France)
WHSmith (Out of Stock)
Sorry but I'm really not up for any further debate on where to buy. I just want to know about Kobo UK shipping & guarantees

When I ordered my H2O there was no shipping charge, but I pre-ordered it so it was a while back and I have no idea which carrier did the shipping. In theory if you're ordering the Kobo from the UK then you're covered by UK law for warranty in theory for up to 5-6 years, even Apple have to follow that, no idea how hard it would be to convince them that as despite having owned a number of devices so far I've not had to actually try using their warranty yet. I was suggesting a local store as they're probably going to be easier to get warranty exchanges on.

"Sorry but I'm really not up for any further debate on where to buy. I just want to know about Kobo UK shipping & guarantees"

The UK Kobo site does not seem to want to allow anyone to buy a Kobo e-reader from Kobo!

However, even though you are not interested in buying from anywhere else, I just thought I would mention that:

1. Kobo's basic warranty is 1 year. However, if you buy from John Lewis (they have H2O in stock) you get a free 2 year warranty and delivery is free.

I did say exactly that actually.

And standard guarantee is 1 yr to 2yrs usually. 5-6yrs for small electronics is very rare.

Thanks for the guarantee info. Yeah I'm aware that JL have it my concern is they told on the phone that only the approved sellers guarantees are valid. JL are not on their list but as Kobo don't appear to know their left from their right.... And as JL are one of the most reputable shops in the UK I wonder if Kobo have omitted them in error.

P.S. No British Dictionary? Are they having a laugh?

UPDATE
Five phone calls a webchat & two emails later, & getting it escalated. Finally spoke to a Canadian & they are saying the problem is with them (no kidding Kobo).
They are upgrading the website, have just finished the ebooks & are about to move on to fixing the ereader section & after that they will fix the tablets. No ETA on when it will work again. But they say that is why you get taken into an infinite loop.
They also agreed that Republic of Ireland might not be impressed with being considered part of the UK. And that they will update the UK retailer list accordingly.
And the person at Kobo who said the warranty was 2 yrs, is in error, it is definitely only 1 year.

I think they should discount them to the UK to say sorry (I know they won't).
