How do I get MobileRead image hosting to work?

I uploaded two PNG images to an album in my account yesterday and inserted the links in a post. I was using Firefox, and the images were showing up fine. But apparently others couldn't see them and today I noticed they did not show up in Chrome or IE.

So I went into my CP and made the album the pics were uploaded to public. They still didn't show up.

Thinking maybe there was a glitch with PNGs, I uploaded the images again in jpeg format into a newly created "public" album and tried those. But there were still issues.

So what's the key to getting images to show in posts to everyone all the time in all browsers?

For now I put them on Imgur, but they delete images after a period of time. I'd rather use MobileRead as it's more or less permanent.

Any ideas?

No idea, Pat, but FWIW, your original images showed up fine for me with Firefox.

And I was using Firefox and didn't see them. FWIW, I prefer adding images as inline attachments, because the albums seem a little too difficult to get working consistently.

@PatNY - I have a handful of smileys and similar small images in a personal album that I reuse from time to time. I have another album for one offs that I want to put in a PM, I cull that one every now and again. The reuse images are a mixture of png, jpg, and gif.

Can't recall any problems with either album.

If you add images via Manage Attachments, you can insert them into a post (ie inline) by positioning insertion where you want the image and clicking the paper clip icon and selecting required image.

The problem could be that the image URL has no extension, but maybe the server is not sending the right headers or something. Maybe there's a way to get a proper filename from the server, but I can't find it.

I too think you are encountering server issues. The image was not visible to me (using IE or FireFox) so I copied & pasted your image URL (that's why there's a 'last edited' line in your post) into a new IE tab - which did display your image. As Jellby pointed out, sometimes the host server doesn't 'play nice' when you try to hot link to an image file.

Many MR members store images in their personal online photo cloud storage service/app - and successfully link to that URL to post images here.

Well, I also tried opening the linked image (with the original image, just before I replied in that thread that the images were broken), and got a weird error message.

(Using Firefox.)

This is not the first time I have seen odd errors using MobileRead's album feature, ,which is why I avoid it in favor of inline attachments.
