Project Gutenburg plugboard issues

I've been using the metadata plugboard

{series} {series_index} {title}

so that i can see the series info on my Kindle but for some reason books that i got from Project Gutenberg (and other random books) ignore this command. Does anyone know how to work around this?

Does the series info show in the main Calibre GUI (spreadsheet) for those titles?

Kindles can be stubborn.
you need to remove previous versions of the book. disconnect, then reconnect and send the (now) 'new' book

under show book details? yes. in main screen? yes. i don't know how to remove previous versions of a book unless it is under edit metadata in bulk, remove stored conversion settings which i did but no change. also i tried to reconvert book and resend it but no change.

ok i think i figured it out. i removed the mobi format and converted the original epub to azw3. that seemed to work.

Mobi is an OLD format that had limited support for things that are currently considered standard.

AZW3 gained a lot over that and the Bookshelf on the K gained features that made use of the new data (when present), but allow you to use the OLD format (with its limitations).
