oh and i might have forgotten to say that
It worked a long time ago, on an intermittent basis (usually when the Kindle Fire HD was completely drained), and after charging, would show in Calibre BUT the reason I have 1,000+ books on my Kindle and none in the new (re-installed) Calibre is that I lost the PC harddrive the calibre software with books was installed on , and had to reinstall to a new PC So in conclusion I have a brand new calibre installed, to latest version, a plugged in, fully charged Kindle Fire HD 7" with over 1,000+ books that Id like to back up to calibre , and the fire never showing as a connected device in calibrea Still, HELP /cry Jean |

if it looks empty in windows explorer, then there is something wrong, outside of calibre.
either you have the wrong driver or windows is seeing it as a media player, not as a storage device. for the latter, there may be a toggle inside of kindle settings that you need rot find and flip, then re-connect it. if you have the mayday feature, then you may be able to get amazon to fix it for you . if not you may have to try various permutations of connect via usb when kindle is off off, or when on + awake, or on + asleep... until windows sees " new hardware" & decides to install a driver. windows + USN + KF do not always play nicely together. But once windows can see the storage ok , calibre shoudl also be able to. Your other option is to skip all that & do everything wirelessly via the calibre companion app, which is in amazon store. |

Empty is Empty
There is no secret Calibre handshake where it will see what Windows won't. \ You need to find (and get fixed) the Windows side before Calibre can do stuff. Remember, not all directly downloaded (WiFi/whisper synch) material will be able to be seen via user connections. More and more brands are building Higher Walls around their Garden ![]() |

I just posted that he should ask here but if he gets to this thread he'll be no further forward,. i wonder if the OP here is on XP still and that XP can't handle KF, or if it is some other unsolved issue ? |

to "rescue " your books wirelessly, as a backup.
method 1>install es file explorer from app store , copy the books from device folder(s) to your PC public documents folder using that app. you go to LAN, find your PC, supply and needed log in credentials.... method 2. create a dropbox account, if you don't already have one. that same es file explorer can link to dropbox, look under cloud any supply credentials. now copy the books folders to dropbox, [ it is possible to sideload the dropbox app and do it that way, but that is awkward with no USB. [ when I want to sideload an app I begin by placing it in dropbox..... catch 22 ] i think the "empty view" in windows may have an answer in amazon community forums, if amazon phone support cannot help. as always google is your friend and it suggests that you are not alone with this one. once you have tour backup, proceed with trying other cables, other ports , other devices if you have to go it alone. a new cable from ebay is very cheap and it may be as simple as spending 99p PS GIYF. i search google on this string of keywords and get pages of relevant hits: kindle fire usb windows empty google searched do not need to be grammatical, just hit it with the keywords & see what it finds in the above search the 1st result goes to amazon forum and the first 2 suggestions therein look worthwhile http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_...TxRJI5JSF7RQ4Z the mention that maybe some app such as battery management is interfering with windows view is exactly the sort of tip that you and your neighbourhood techie could never stumble across... could power of community forums is the way to go Last edited by cybmole; 06-20-2015 at 12:37 AM. |
