Switching annotated collection from one Kindle to another

Switching annotated collection from one Kindle to another.

I am considering moving to a new Kindle unit but would like to retain my highlights & annotations currently sitting on my present Kindle. How can I best do this since I have been using Calibre to process all my ebooks and this seems to rule out going through the Amazon website ?

If you haven't reconverted your books, then annotations *should* sync automatically.

Either way, you can still transfer all books with annotations, by copying over the *.mobi/*.azw3 files, together with the *.sdr/ folder which contains that book's annotations.

Unless you have an older Kindle (Kindle Keyboard, K4NT) that still stores the files in the documents folder, rather than the .sdr/ subfolders, in which case copy those too.

Which Kindle do you have? Your profile only says "Kindle Wi-Fi", which describes most of them.

Can I use the e-book software management called "Calibre" to send my current e-book collection currently assigned to my Kindle Wireless Reading Device from my computer to my Fire HD 7 ? Will this affect the sync / backup ? How do I get Calibre to switch device destination ?

Just plug in your other device, and use calibre to "Send-to-device". The books will be transferred.

As long as they have not been reconverted, the exth 113 field will still be the same, and annotations *should* sync.

You may need to DeDRM the books in order to read them on a new device. This does not count as conversion, so you should still be safe.
