Switched from PB360 to Kindle Voyage HELP
Hi
I have switched from a pair of Pocketbook 360's to a pair of Kindle Voyage's so I suppose I have been an e-booker for some years, I have a large library that I keep on Calibre and was pleased to read that i could convert my files from epub to azw3 and use on the kindle. So far so good, but then once i have all books converted and synced onto the devices I realise that locating books is very difficult with a flat file, and there is no ability to look at a series of books. Ah then i discover collections and although it wants me to use the cloud, I find that i can use collections locally. Ok so I set up a few collections and start to manually select books, then think well calibre works with kindle voyage now, so i re-connect and on device i see the collection field but it isn't populated. I have spent ages trying to work this out and been on the phone with amazon\kindle support. I just said i want to organise my collections and keep both devices in sync, after they accept that i have 700 books from the last 10 years and im not going to replace them, and they accept that manually setting up collections on both devices is impracticable, they accept that if i want a refund then i can have it and buy a kobo. HELP is this the only option, I have been away from book-readers for a couple of years and have re-married and we are off on our first holiday next week(honeymoon) and I have persuaded the new wife to not take lots of books but use a book-reader. Have I fallen at the first hurdle, I thought DRM was a thing of the past and that devices had become more open, is this just DRM in a new disguise. This stinks of Apple tactics, microsoft have finally made their software x-platform and they are getting good praise, come on amazon thanks in advance Darren |

Are collections not working at all or are they just not syncing?
Amazon cannot sync collections if the books in question did not come from them. However, if you set up collections separately on each device, the collections should work just fine. |

Also -- on previous models that were able to be easily jailbroken, there are third-party aftermarket addons in our Kindle Developers Corner, which enable you to manage collections easily using a calibre plugin. That is what I do with my Kindle Touch.
![]() And they still work if you are willing to do a serial port (hardware) jailbreak. Otherwise, to manage collections via calibre, you will want to get a Kobo. ![]() |

I am able to set up collections manually on each device, but they do not appear in calibre, and i would like to link column in library to collection column on the device.
Is there a you tube video or good document on jailbreak and does it turn the device into another brick regards Darren |

This has nothing whatsoever to do with DRM, so get that idea out of your head.
I'd suggest looking at Calibre plugboards to organise series. I have some 1800 books on my Kindle Voyage and have no difficulty locating books due to the use of a plugboard to prefix a book's title with the series name and number. Forgive me if you know this, and I'm sure you do, but you are aware that you can jump directly to any author when you sort your home page by author? No need to page through the library a page at a time. |

The only way to manage Kindle collections in calibre is to jailbreak and use the calibre Kindle Collections plugin in tandem with our hacks. You can however email books to your Kindle, and then Amazon will be able to sync your collections between devices.

Hiya
The DRM reference was only an inference that that issue seems to have subsided and another roadblock to open systems has risen, not on how you can use the e-books but how you can use a book reader. Do plugboards allow you to organise books so you can upload them onto the device in a fashion that you can manage them and view them in a sorted way? on a new kindle. regards Darren |

calibre plugboards can do that, by modifying the title before the book is added to the Kindle.
Then you simply sort by title. REMEMBER: You can skip to titles beginning with a certain letter(s) -- tap the lower right corner, for me: <page> 1/60 Last edited by eschwartz; 06-18-2015 at 04:05 PM. |
