regarding "Guessing metadata from file names" function
Uncheck the Preferences->Adding Books->Read metadata from file contents rather than file name, and then add the books to calibre. All the metadata except title and the authors can't be read into the books.
It is by design? From my perspective, all the metadata should be read into the books, while the title and the authors metadata should be read according to the file name. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Thanks in advance. |

My guess would be that if the embedded author and title are not OK it is likely that the other metadata is Not worth having. In such a case I suspect most people download new metadata via the web.

Reading metadata from filename supports much more that title and author. You can read publishers, isbn, series, series_index, pubdate, comments from the file name. You have to adjust the adding books regular expression to read that data from the filename.

@itimpi I use the Fetch News feature quite often and I can't get the metadata from the web. Even though, thanks for your suggestion.

I hope, as I said before, if calibre could get the Cover from the content no matter if that option is checked or not.
Anyway, thanks for the information that we are able to get other metadata from the file name by regular expression. |
