Font isn't changing?
I have a Kobo Aura and use it with Calibre. However: whatever font I choose: it isn't changing..?? What could be wrong?
**edit**: I see now that some books change. Some others don't. Both formats are epub. Last edited by gyedema; 06-01-2015 at 12:38 PM. |

Depending how comfortable you are with epub editing, the solution is to open the book in an epub editor (e.g. calibre or Sigil). Look at the css file and remove any unwanted occurrences of font-family. You can only do this for books with no DRM. |

You can also do this without fiddling inside the book, with a Calibre conversion - under Look & Feel, Filter Style Information tab.

Hello,
If you can, don’t erase the css file but rather, inside it, the font-family and @font-face declarations. This way your book will stay formatted (paragraph, indentation, capitals, etc.) but it will let you change de font. You can also use the plugin «*modify epubs*» to remove them easily. |

Ah, didn't know that plugin. I could open the epub in Calibre, however, on the left side of the screen a sort of index of all chapters appeared (.html files). Each file had several font occurences, so editing them all didn't seem very attractive...
I'll try find the plugin and play around with it! |

In the Tools menu of the Edit Book, there is Filter style information. Just open that and filter font-family. You don't need to convert, converting should be avoided if possible.

I assume that I have to use the Modify Epubs plugin for that?

Nope. The plugin is one way, the modify epub plugin is another to get the same thing.
By using only Calibre, you have to right clic on the book you want to edit, choose, "edit book" (a blue icon of a book with a wrench). Inside Edit book, you have to choose, "filter style informations" in the Tools menu. There you enter the options mentioned above. Then, you press Ok, then you save the book. |

Connected again, searched again for "font-family" and Calibre said "no occurences found"... |

did you actually re-send the book from calibre library to the kobo device, after editing it ?
what you typed suggests you went directly from close in calibre to open in kobo ? "I closed Calibre, the system said "unsaved changes". So I had it saved. I opened the book on the Kobo..." I would suggest completely removing the book from the device, then reboot the device, then re-connect it to calibre, then re-send it... I don't think you can directly edit the "on device" copy . |

let us know the outcome please.
the only other possibility that i can think of is that there is some font family stuff in the actual html chapter files, which may not get auto-removed. you can post a small extract of a book without breaking rules, I think, so do that if not fixed.[or to be ultra safe, ask first as to what you are allowed to attach to a post ] |

There is a shorthand CSS property font which can also prevent the font-family being changed, but you can't always just remove all instances of font: without ruining the book because it is used to set other properties such as font-size and font-weight too.
If the stylsheet has something like font: italic 1.5em/1.2 serif; then you need to replace it with font-style: italic; font-size: 1.5em; line-height: 1.2; font-family: serif; (and then delete the font-family, line-height, etc. if you want.) |
