A Few Questions...
I think I remember hearing that kindlets are java, so what are the other hacks (librerator, pbchess) using? Is there a specific language or does it not matter too much? Which one would work best if a complete beginer where to try to code a terminal emulator or IRC client (Yeah, I'm obsessed)?
TIA |

The "Accidental IRC client" for the Kindles is open source -
Check that out to see what it was written in / how involved it is to do. Maybe just modifying one of the existing projects is an easier first step. |

Ok, so PBChess is using C++ & Qt. I am going to head in that direction... Still confused, even after having it explained several times, as to how I have the output from the irc server show in the Qt ui. But I think I can get this figured out...

this link has a patch showing a gtk program with a new title:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ighlight=patch This one has a QT window title set: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ighlight=patch window title seems to be the most important. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=window+title https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=window+title https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=window+title |

Yup, it has EVERYTHING to do with the window title. You might want to also look into the mplayer gui. I think it uses direct framebuffering or eips.

looks interesting but difficult? You're planning on Kindle 4 only? the newer devices have touchsreens so they would involve keyboard input which you would have to call?
I've not seen anyone use qbs - Qt build system? on ARM/kindle yet. Did you try ANY project yet? It would give you a better feel for the process to do something that someone else has already built, so you can ask direct questions with problems. Also build it for regular debian or whatever first and see how that goes. Just trying to help, GOOD LUCK! |

I would like to know how the osk works on a touch vs k4, wouldn't I be able to have a kb that accepts touch input AND has a selection box for use with a five way?
pbchess uses qt, wouldn't this app work similarly? I have not, that sounds like a great first step ![]() ![]() Thank you very much for your help and input! |

This is a simple way to compile some stuff in an image/chroot:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...9&postcount=30 It uses qemu-static so you can chroot right in and then apt-get what you need. once you have built it, you can use ldd to see the dependencies and export the ones needed on you system. |
