Illumina XL touchscreen bug

I have an issue. The touchscreen on my Illumina XL is acting up. When wifi is off, the flipping of the pages gets miserable. It either doesn't register a touch and I need to press the second time, or it skips two pages at once. It doesn't matter what reading program I use (I prefer Moon+, but even the default reading apps exhibit the same bug), and I finally convinced myself that it doesn't matter what apps I have installed period (I tried resetting the device, still the same problem, although for the record all I have installed are Calibre Companion, Moon+, Nova Launcher and Ivona). Swiping to change pages works marginally better, but after a while swipes become unresponsive, and I need to switch back to taps. Unfortunately the device doesn't have buttons, and while I can configure the only button on the device to act like a page turning button, it isn't completely comfortable.

The only way I have found to fix this is by turning the wifi on and running it in the background constantly. It doesn't even have to connected or configured, it just has to be on. Then everything works magically, but the battery does suffer, obviously. Since it can work, it must be a software bug of some kind, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is, and so far Icarus customer service has been unresponsive.

Does anyone else have a similar issue with this device, or any other Bouye-like devices? Does anyone know of any possible fix?
