getting file to iPad - what works for me

First, my apologies if this is old news. Second, I have no connection with the the company I mention, other than as I customer.

I use a syncing product called SugarSync. It's not free. I have an old account, so its at a low price, but limited storage - 10GB, which turns out to be enough for me, at least for now. I think the current minimum is abound $80 a year, for 100gb, quite a bit more than I need.

I use this to keep files on a laptop and desk side system in sync, but it also works on my iPad (and iPhone). You can sync either individual files, or an entire windows directory

Included in the directories that I sync is my entire Calibre library. SugarSync allows you to open a document in a number of different apps, including the Kindle Reader. On my iPad I can find any book in my Calibre library. Whole process is automatic, no manual syncing or additional set up needed.

I also sync PDFs that I want to read someday, though that's not connected with Calibre. SugarSync has a built in PDF reader, though I usually use Goodreads.

Maybe this is useful for someone.

You can also use Dropbox the same way, or Google Drive, Box, Copy.com, etc.

all of which are faster than sugar sync. dropbox is way faster, more reliable, and free for most folks needs - google some independent tests.

NB google drive has specific issues with calibre live operations - well documented in other threads
