7 point story structure spreadsheet
I found a PDF of a chart for creating the 7 points of a Story Structure and decided to make a editable spreadsheet of it. It can be found here Click if anyone is interested in a copy.

Thanks!
But I thought that the Hook was where you got the reader hooked - which I somehow doubt that they get by reading that the protagonist "has a sad boring life". So in my understanding, the Hook in Harry Potter is the cover and the blurb, and general marketing. |

The hook (within the story) is where you introduce the character and make his/her life interesting enough for the reader to want to keep reading. The "sad boring life" bit is just a way of saying that their life is ordinary up to the point where the story starts on page one.

Right! Okay ... so it's a bit of a lull before the storm, where the author construct a tower one brick at a time, with the implicit promise that the reader is going to see it getting smashed to pieces.

More of a setting of the stage with a promise of things to come. Like in Treasure Island for example when Jim Hawkins starts to talk of the "captain" who takes up residence at his families inn of The Admiral Benbow. You just know something is going to happen that isn't ordinary. Or like in the movie of The Invisible Man when a stranger who is wrapped up in bandages makes his appearance. You ask yourself who is he? Why is he wrapped up in those bandages? etc. We want to know more of what is up and read, or watch further.

I made a diagram of the 7 point structure and some notes on how to fit it into a 9 day schedule. I thought I'd share it in case others might find it of interest. I used 50k for a word count as many do take part in NaNoWriMo and that's a common word count there.
