Scan Text books into kindle paperwhite
Guys, can I scan school text books into my kindle ereader? Complicated?

First steps first -- you need to scan it, then use OCR e.g. ABBYY Finereader, to turn it into an ebook.
This is not a format/device-specific question... might be better off in the Workshop. |

Depends on your goal. If you just want the content to be readable on a Kindle and don't care about searching in the text, you could probably get away with scanning the pages at somewhere between 72 DPI and 300 DPI (depending on the font size and style) and then throwing the images into a PDF. It might be huge, but....

It's a pile of work! (scanning 2 OCR 2 PDF, whatever). I think it would be cheaper just to buy the e-version, if one exists.

Searching and dictionary lookup are for this purpose the same, as both require you have an OCR layer in the PDF (or go to the effort of cleanup and exporting to EPUB/AZW3).
