PRS-950 Bought Sony PRS-950--Has issues--Fixable?

I chose a PRS-950 intentionally for its feature set. I bought one on ebay, it mostly works. I need to decide if issues I notice can be fixed, else may want to return it. Here are 3 issues that bug me so far.

1. Sleep mode seems to hang it sometimes

Twice in two days of slight use it has failed to wake from Sleep by sliding the power slider. I have had to use soft reset.

Is there a trick to waking the 950 from auto-Sleep mode?

After soft reset, I notice this:

- the reader appears to boot from scratch (it goes to the "Opening book" screen, I'm not sure if that is normal after Sleep)
- the wifi password for my home network has been erased

Probably other stuff's getting reset, also, but I'm too much a novice to see.

2. Many annoying messages about problems with website security certificates.

I understand that such messages are routine and ubiquitous.

I'd like to know if there is a way to tell the 950 to always ignore them.

3. Failed downloading an ebook from my library

(Berkeley Public - they seem to know what they're doing w/r/t ebooks, so likely not their fault)

There are two cards in the top of the reader and both appear to be well-seated.

Here is part of the error message after starting a download.

status: 6
task status code: -197
path: undefined

Above this in the error message it mentioned a parameter that appears to be path-related:

dir:{"/Data/database/media/downloads/"}

==> I should mention, I used Calibre successfully to put several books onto the 950's Main memory. Was able to read one okay.

g, The Sony PRS 950 is a great ereader. I hope my two 950s make good old bones.

I've never had any of the problems you mention. It sounds like the firmware has been modified.

(Chagrined about delay responding. MobileRead told me I was subscribed to this thread, but I was not notified of your reply.)

The firmware may have been modified. When I look at the Settings/About screen, the first line (under "About") says "Hack Information" and it goes on to say that is has been "Russified: porkupan (boroda) Version: 1.05m".

I'm going to start a fresh thread because what's annoyed me most past couple of days is different. Will call it: PRS-950 - Should it hang at odd moments while reading ebooks?

Could the firmware modification lead to such hangs, or are such things just par for the course with an older ereader?

I got mine the other day from E-Bay for 64 dollars and its like brand new. It doesn't have any of the problems that you have.
