Installed Sigil but it won't launch

I'm using Xubuntu. It's a newer computer. I downloaded Sigil 0.7.2 from a .deb file. (see attachment). I installed it with Gdebi installer. Sigil icon was in the Applications Menu. I tried to launch it from there. Nothing. No error message. Nothing. So I installed it again. Same result. Any ideas?

Thanks ducks. I'm going to get rid of whatever Sigil is quasi-installed there first. I looked over DiapDealer's post and it looks good, but I'm going to be using 64bit Sigil 0.7.2. (That's what I've got on my other computer.) I see the links on DiapDealer's post go to 0.7.4. Happen to know where I can get the file for 0.7.2?

I see no good reason to use 7.2.
It is not like the Book structure changes between Versions. All you gain is stability and the possibility to use new features.
The visual differences are slight.

If I can find it, I'll try to put 0.7.2 up somewhere and get you a link sometime this weekend, Gregg.

As for sticking with 0.7.2, I did the same thing myself for quite a while. A little weirdness crept in with 0.7.3/4 with regard to missing doctypes and the handling of non-breaking space characters upon opening.

That one you downloaded LOOKS like it might have been one of mine (going by naming convention and file size; I'd have to crack it open to be sure) but it appears to be a 32-bit version. You mentioned you needed/wanted the 64-bit version. Could that have been the problem? With my packages, you should be able to launch by typing sigil in a terminal window. That should give you more info about what is going wrong than launching from the application menu.

I may want it, JS. I just got a newer computer and was getting all the same software by rote. 0.8.5 is leaps and bounds better than 0.7.2? (I've got 0.7.2 on another computer and have never had any problems with it.)

It's 64 ducks. I found the stats:

0.8.5 is better. It uses Qt5 which does fix a number of things over Qt4. Plus, you can use plugins and there are some posted on MR for Sigil. Also, 0.8.5 does come in a 64-bit version.

Thanks Diap, but I think I may be ready to move up to the latest version. I was in the middle of using 0.7.2 when I heard about the non-breaking space stuff with the newer versions, and so very determined to keep what I have. But now I just got a newer computer and I'm not using Sigil at the moment so it'll be a good time to make the move. I think. lol Is 0.8.5 much better than 0.7.2? (And I don't want to get left too far behind.)

Your method of installing looks really easy. Where do I put the downloaded Sigil file though? Or is it being in the Downloads folder sufficient?

Thanks and sorry about the indecision and possible shifting gears.

Thanks JS. And working with my old epubs (when I need to update things) is not going to be a problem?
