Question Can't load Calibri or Update it on my Dell Laptop

I have been using Calibri for years, almost 2 years on this laptop, now have an extensive library of ebooks in it, and as of tonight was updated to version 2.21. I tried to open it FIVE times tonight both from the icon in the tray and the start menu and every time it froze the computer so I had to turn the it off and back on again. Finally I thought I would update the program to 2.24 and see if that would solve the problem. My laptop will not open the update. The Windows installer says "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package." I tried both the 64 bit version and the other and got the same thing.

I'm left with a feeling of paranoia that Microsoft has put Calibri on its black list and is blocking it coming and going. OR that I have picked up a virus of some sort. Anyone else having this problem? I have a Dell Inspiron 64 bit computer Operating system Windows 7 Home Premium

Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps you mean 'calibre'.

SerenaDB - from where did you download calibre - should be from here calibre - Download for Windows

Try reinstalling calibre (i.e. uninstall and do a fresh install), you wont lose you library or configuration , but you might want to back them up just in case, see ==>> How do I backup calibre?

AFAIK Microsoft does not blacklist any software - do you have any evidence that it does. It does participate in a consortia that includes Google, Mozilla, various security software vendors etc to block infected websites and to filter email spam from your inbox.

If you really think you have malware on your system then do some full scans with a couple of the free standalone scanners such Trend Micro Housecall and Malwarebytes.

Something is damaging the download. (assume ONLY using Kovids official sources on the Calibre download page)

Your A/V silently fixed a file?
Your ISP cached a broken copy? Use one of the Alternates on the download page.

Calibre is really running, but just Off Screen (on a 2nd monitor) ?
What does the Taskman say?

Error - Not Responding for Calibre 2.24

I did as suggested and uninstalled the version that wasn't working, dumped all my temp and cache and redownloaded from one of the alt download locations. After I installed, the application opened without a problem. Thanks for the assist!
