How to load ebooks on my smartphone
Tearing my hair out trying to understand the procedure, please help. I've got many ebooks in epub (mostly) format. I've connected my LH G3 smartphone to the pc, added all my books to Calibre library and loaded them on to the device. According to Calibre they're all there. Now the difficult bit - When I disconnect the phone from the pc, how do I find the books, and how do I read them? I've tried a couple of apps, like Nook and Aldiko, but how do I actually link the apps to the books so I can find them?
Pathetically grateful for any expert help. Mike |

If the ebooks are DRM free, try FBreader.
Use the File Tree option on the bookshelf icon to browse the file system and locate the books. Once you know the location you can point other apps there. Last edited by fjtorres; 06-02-2015 at 03:23 PM. |

Also, Calibre uses its default settings to send the files for different devices. Don't know if easier to check on calibre's settings/preferences.

Additionally, look into Calibre Companion as the tool for getting books onto the device. See Calibre Companion and then try the demo version

Make a books folder, copy your books there, find import books in the app and point it at your books folder.
That's what I do anyway. |

Thanks. Yes that's what I did first, onto the SD card, and the folder is perfectly visible when connected to the pc but once disconnected I can't find it anwhere on the phone.

My phone's "SD card" is actually the internal memory. I had to go to the "external SD" card directory (might be abbreviated a bit) to find the Books folder I made (this cost me too long to figure out just yesterday!)

it's baffling. The separate "Internal drive" and "SD card" folders are perfecty visible when connected to pc but on the phone itself there is no trace of SD card and the folders in it. I can't think of any reason why this should be.

It could be just the weird file structures Google uses it's like they intentionally try to make it as hard as possible to use Micro SD cards, they honestly have something against local storage and want people to use their cloud.
To further confuse things they have also names the actual devices internal storage SDcard so there is a decent chance that's what is confusing you. On my G3 I have to get to the Micro SD by browsing to /storage/external_SD/ It may take backtracking a directory or two until you see the storage folder. Yours might actually be named differently but I'd expect there to be a folder like ext_sd or external_SD really it varies between devices. |

You have to copy your books into the books folder that should be in the directory on your phone. Once that is done you unplug and go into Aldiko to import your books, then you have to find the books folder and select that, from there it should then start uploading your books into Aldiko.
I store all my books on my phone, not on a card, it just makes things easier for me. |

Various input methods of various kinds of media place apps and files in many different places. Therefore, I use the app Link2SD to move moveable apps to my microSD card and the app ES File Explorer to find and move files to preferred locations, both on and off my devices.
With ES File Explorer, I find especially helpful:
FYI, I like to store all of my sideloaded documents and books in Calibre Companion. I can then read via compatible apps, e.g., Moon+ Reader Pro. Last edited by Froide; 06-04-2015 at 04:38 AM. |
