False Format, book replaced, but not found

I used the instructions I was given to find books without files, and manually adding one back in. However, it still thinks of it as missing. Is it possible to sync the metadata of the book with no format with the replacement I just added, or do I need to do so manually? Thank you.

How did you add the book?
You must always use a mode of Add Books.
Dropping the book into the Library folder (going under the skirts), does not LOG the format into the Library.

You can't simply copy the files into calibre's folder unless you get the file name *exactly right*, something that is rather hard to do.

The better solution is to select the book in calibre to which you want to re-add the format. At this point the book's details are showing in the details pane. Next drag the book format file onto the cover in the details pane. Calibre will add that format to the book record. It will think it is replacing the existing (missing) format, but that is OK.

Generally, I add books by using the option under toolbar, this time I drag and dropped into the program. I never make changes to the actual physical library folders, myself. Thank you for the help.

@chaley
"Next drag the book format file onto the cover in the details pane. Calibre will add that format to the book record." I'm not sure what you mean here. The physical file on my drive? or do you mean something else?

@taratears - if its an ebook format (epub, mobi, pdf, docx, lit...) drag/drop the file from file manager to the book details side bar. This will not work with 'foreign' files such as mp4, flac, xlsx, etc.

Name:	Capture.JPG
Views:	138
Size:	187.5 KB
ID:	136356

Added : if the format is already in the book folder (but not 'registering' in the db) this will work fine - I do it at least a dozen times a day

Or use Add->Add files to existing record (shift/A). If you want to add 'foreign' files to an existing book, you need to use this option, and you must adjust the file type selector to 'All files' .

Those should work
But...

D&D books into the main (book list) pane may result in a NEW entry, not always merging with the existing book
entry
D&D books into the Details or Formats box (in the MDE) will add or replace that format explicitly ( Be careful, you can drop any book here , there is no metadata check )

D&D covers into the cover area of Details or the MDE
