Please, Please Help Me! TOC and Chapters

I have spent hours upon hours searching for the answers to the trouble I've been having with Calibre, but have found nothing that is working.
I inserted a Word document into Calibre and converted it to EPUB. I edited the EPUB to include h1, h2, and h3. I generated a TOC from all headings, and it looks great! I look at the EPUB through the EPUB viewer and the TOC works fabulously. Then I send the EPUB to my Kindle and select the Go To on my Kindle and then TOC is nowhere to be found. WHY??? I really don't understand. If someone could please point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

Also, none of my chapters start on their own page on the Kindle. They all just start randomly as the ebook goes along. How can I fix that? I've even tried adding page breaks when I'm editing it on Calibre.

Please help! I am a first timer so I've had to learn as I go along so please try and be basic in your answers.

Do you have an ORIGINAL_EPUB format? Have you confirmed you are converting the EPUB and not the DOCX, into an AZW3?

ORIGINAL_EPUB is left behind when converting from EPUB ==> EPUB, and conversions will always rely on originals.
The DOCX of course includes none of your changes.

Not even kidding. In all of the places I searched nobody told me to check that. I cannot thank you enough. You have seriously made my night. Thank you!

It is one of those little corner pitfalls.

The general idea behind an ORIGINAL_FMT format is that you delete it once you confirm the conversion worked as expected.
