Hi!
I am using Sigil to create an ePub e-book for Kindle. For uploading e-books to Kindle, there is a feature for uploading the cover. Should I include a cover in the ePub e-book? Or should I just upload the cover in Kindle? Thank you! Dr. T |

Amazon guidelines say leave the cover out.
The separately uploaded cover will be embedded in the book, and it isn't nice to put two covers in a row ![]() Doesn't stop some tradpubbed books from doing just that. ![]() |

Definitely, don't include a cover. At least some of the time, you will wind up with two covers. (This applies only to epubs. With any other format, the KDP conversion seems to suppress any image that it finds at the front of the book -- including a frontispiece! So if you have something like that, move it deeper into the book.)

If you run an ePub that has a cover thru Kindle Previewer, does it strip the cover out?

Starting fairly early on, when I uploaded html files, I found that ANY image at the front of the book would be suppressed in favor of the cover, even if it was a legitimate frontispiece and no cover at all. So I learned to move illustrations past the title page. For at least a year, I uploaded epubs with cover included, and they worked just fine. Then someone pointed out to me (I think in January 2012) that a newly published book had TWO covers when downloaded. I bought a copy, and indeed it did. Since that time I've not added a cover until I go to build the version intended for other retailers. |
