Locking metadata in place?
I'm wondering if its possible to lock metadata for certain books, so that a batch update of metadata only overwrites unlocked files. I've searched the site for it, and the only reference I've found is five years old. Thank you for your help.

You could tag the books '!locked', and do a search for not tags:"=!locked" before you bulk metadata edit. Also you could create Locked and Not Locked virtual libraries. Why !locked - I use - ! (bang), # (crunch), ^ (hat) and ~ (squiggle) - to indicate 'this is special' when naming things, like tags, files etc. Makes them sort into groups (when they're sorted ![]() BR |

It is reasonably easy to get the same results that you seek with the Quarantine and Scrub add-on. Simply Copy Real to Work, then download your metadata from where you wish, then Copy Work back to Real for the specific metadata columns by book for which the Real metadata no longer pleases you and you wish it restored from Work. You can pick and choose by column by book what you keep or restore to the pre-download state.
This is not as easy as an explicit "lock", of course, but it works, and currently exists (unlike the "lock", which does not). DaltonST |
