Glo status?
Is the Glo being phased out? The past two days, when I click on the "Buy Now" button I get an unavailable page (same as the Mini). Also, I think the price of the Aura has been reduced to $129 (wasn't it $149).

Still in sotck via the Kobo web site in Canada. Chapters seems not to carry it anymore via their web site, but they do have the Touch in stock.

My guess is the two devices found mentioned in the firmware will be replacing the Mini and the Glo.

This is a good managerial decision. Glo was actually hurting Kobo, many Glo users still haven't upgraded to Auras. Improvements are very incremental after all. But stopping to update the software would finally make me, as many of the others I am sure, buy one of the Auras.

And to me it's an asinine managerial decision. I won't use a capacitive touch reader for several reasons, so when I heard the Glo was slowly being phased out, I bought 2 more Glos to have as backups. Giving people choices is always the best option in sales.
Which means now if and when these ever die, I'll go elsewhere for a reader if one of the new models isn't infrared touch. And I don't want a reader larger than 6", even if it is infrared. |

I agree, too many products can complicate choices to the point where a customer can't decide or drags the process out needlessly, but not being able to offer any alternative guarantees that your competition will be the one offering the alternative. Better to be "your own competition".

I agree with booklover6. Goodereader is not known for always getting it right (i.e. couple of days ago when they claimed Amazon was getting out of library lending), so even the "end of Glo", while it is very plausible, doesn't gain much credibility from them posting it.
As for the new devices, it's strictly speculation based on what's in the firmware. Who knows what will come from it if anything. I really have a hard time believing that they are going to bring out a new Kobo mini (even a lighted one) based on credible reports of the low sales of the original were (sorry mini lovers). |

I also don't like capacitive touch, I hope there will be a new infrared device.

I don't have a smart phone or want one. I most often have Kobo mini in my shirt pocket. Would really like a i lighted mini but don't expect to see one from Kobo. Don't think anyone else sells 5 inch screen ereader as good as the mini.

Given no new official firmware for the Glo and that the Glo's page on Kobo's website no longer works, that is a strong indication of the Glo being discontinued. You click Buy Now and you get "Sorry, but this page isn’t available.".
