DRM Free Bargains?

I would be interested in a thread under the 'Deals and Freebies' forum used to point out bargain books that are DRM-free.

Would anyone else find such a thing useful?

(Moved to the "Feedback" forum.)

Nope. DRM is so trivial to remove that its absence or presence is completely irrelevant to me. With my workflow of buying books, I never know whether or not a book has DRM; if it's there, it's transparently stripped without my ever seeing it.

There's nothing stopping you from creating such a thread, though, if it's something that you'd personally find useful.

I think there is an audience for this.

I agree. There is a surprising number (to me, anyway) of people that want DRM-free books and refuse to remove DRM from books that have it.

I say go for it. A number of MR members over the years have been ideologically committed to getting only DRM-free stuff, and this would probably help make things easier for them.

Also, it'd be a way to keep track of which publishers offer their wares DRM-free and where (i.e., Tor in theory everywhere, Samhain directly at their webstore and B&N but not elsewhere, Poisoned Pen Press via iTunes but nowhere else, as far as I can tell, Pan Macmillan Australia's Momentum imprint via direct-buy and Kobo only, etc.).

I agree -- make the thread if you feel it could be useful. See who uses it. Eventually it may become popular enough to be stickied -- if not, no one is hurt by its existence....

Here is a thread in the Calibre area that covers DRM free books exclusively.

Open Books is a compilation non DRM e-books from various sources linked to enable readers to browse and download them.
Open books currently features over 3700 ebooks by over 2250 authors from 50 stores in 16 genres.

388 of the ebooks are Non-English, 271 are free and 951 cost $2 or less.

The cataloguing is done by me alone so there may be errors or books that have been discontinued. Please use this thread to bring such things to my notice and I will try to rectify them as soon as possible.

The open books website has a newest page that lists the 100 latest books added to open books. But I will make a post here every time I add about 10 to 15 ebooks of a particular category. I usually add 10 or so ebooks of a particular category (Romance or Fantasy or Humour, etc) at a time. The latest ebooks appear at the top of the page.

Thanks, Doctor Ohh! calibre is a great resource for DRM-free books, and the prices seem quite reasonable.
