How to reset/re-install "read-only" Kindle Touch?
Hi
I have a Kindle Touch (FW 5.3.7), which became "ready-only" after I forgot to charge. After I charge the Kindle Touch back, I could not write it any more. Problem Description The Kindle Touch is not bricked yet. I still can read the books/docs I stored inside previously. The problem is that I cannot update any bookmark. Every time when I turn on the Kindle, it is always on that page. I saw "Application Error" each time as well. I tried to format the windows-mountable partition, but it didn't work. I also tried to reset the device through the menu. It failed, too. After formatting the partition or reset, I saw everything was still inside as unchanged. I couldn't delivery book into my Kindle as well. Work Done I tried to use the debrick Live CD. But it could not boot into diagnostic mode after flashing the images in fastboot mode. I followed the "Guide to debricking Kindle Touch V4.pdf". Still I have problem in booting into the newly flashed diags with SSH. The Kindle reboots into main, instead of the newly flashed diags with SSH. However, using the MfgTool.exe, I could boot into its own diags, but without SSH. Is there a way to enter SSH mode without flashing a new diags? I guess the newly flashed diags images are lost somehow during the reboot. Is there a way to verify the flashing of diags image is successful? Any help/comment is appreciated. |

Hi knc1,
Thanks for pointing me to the FGA. However, I still haven't figured out how to ssh to Kindle in diags mode. Do I have to flash diags with SSH? I can enter diagnostic mode using the MfgTool.exe. |

Thanks for the comments.
I had this doubt these days as well, after I discussed with a group of engineer friends. To make the software work round, the hardware has to be functional. I plan to open the back cover and have a look. |
