No 'Refresh View' button/function?
When I directly edit the library-view fields like Series, I would like to refresh the view to update the sorting. For example, if I have my view sorted by Series and I update some Series fields, to refresh the sorting, I have to click the Series header to reverse the sort and click the header again to restore the desired sort direction.
I looked at the keyboard shortcuts help page and there doesn't appear to be a documented method to refresh the view. Certainly it's not F5. |

Your observation is correct
![]() Quick view might work for you (I tend to under use this nice feature ![]() Quickview (Q) is a fast way to show all similar to the selected FIELD Select series: all in that series Select Author: all by that Author |

View Manager plugin -- for setting up custom sort views and binding them to shortcuts.
That is one way to refresh... |

@badbob001 - I use the View Manager PI, for each View I have a keyboard shortcut (ctrl/alt/1,2,3...) which serves as a refresh key, but it does mean I have to know which view I'm in
![]() If you're in a VL and you change a book's cell values such that the book no longer meets the VL's search expression then Esc will refresh the book list in the sense that the just changed book won't be there (it will also clear the search bar of course). I only recently discovered this, so I'm not sure if this has always been so. I agree there should be way to refresh the list -- apply current VL, apply search bar expression, apply sorts, apply View, apply column colour rules, apply column icon rules -- are the things I can think of that might need to be taken into account. I know Bulk Edit refreshes the spreadsheet, but single edit does not. There were probably performance issues to think about.
I agree there should be a shortcut to refresh the view manually. Escape just clears the searchbar, a byproduct is that the spreadsheet must be recalculated for the new null search. Last edited by eschwartz; 03-02-2015 at 03:14 PM. Reason: typo |

I assume single metadata edit refreshes too, but the OP mentioned 'direct editing', which is what I do for everything... except Comments
![]() Yes I knew Esc cleared the search bar, but I recently discovered it also refreshes the current VL - I suspect it's been ever thus ![]() BR |

I tried the search bar, made a direct edit on a sorted column, pressed ESC, but the column didn't re-sort.
I didn't know about Quickview, which may be useful, though the results can't be directly edited. |

That is what I was saying, that direct editing follows a pattern which matches single edit. Quote:

Well, it does for me... you do have to have an active search, and pressing ESC should have the same effect as "Reset Quick Search" (the X icon to the right).
