Sansa Clip Zip - your experiences?
I'm thinking of buying one of these babies, 4GB version. With micro sd card that's enough storage for me. I only go through 1 audiobook every couple of months. Any of you have it? I'm looking for some people to chime in with their personal experience especially with regards to battery life and sound quality. I'll mostly use it for Audible audiobooks, so if you have experience in that regard I would love to hear about file management, how's the actual play ability of the files and so on. Is it easy to to forward or backward an audiobook? Anything you would say to someone who has never had a Sansa mp3 player.
Thank you very much. |

I listen to audio podcast short stories and the occasional longer work, always as MP3 files without any DRM. I make sure that the filenames all sort in alphanumeric order in the order I want to listen. I then play by selecting the Play>Folders option rather than Music or whatever. The Clip+ always remembers the file playing and the position in the file (read: auto-bookmark) when turned off so that it picks right up where I left of when I turn it on again. With the files I use (mostly 96-128bps MP3s) the battery runtime per charge is enough to play roughly 1-1.5gb of files. |

I like the Clip Zip, except that some of the library books, which are in "parts" don't play in the right order.

The ClipZip has been wonderful for Audible books. I'm not using mine very often now, am mostly using my Samsung phone. But, I never have had a problem with Audible books. Although it sounds like you won't need to use a mircoSD card, the books play fine when loaded onto one. Some mp3 players I've had couldn't use the card for audiobooks.
As far as the wrong order of library books, I found if I use Windows Explorer and just drag and drop the books, they keep their order. Sometimes when using the OD program to copy them to the ClipZip, it would mess up the playback order. |

I think it is probably a great device, but if it doesn't work, Sansa does not honor their warranty. So, if you go with this device, make sure you get an extended warranty from the store. I sadly had several Sansa products that failed (likely a battery issue) and they would do NOTHING to fix the problem. One Sansa failed the 2nd time I charged it. When it actually works, they are great!

Just wanted to leave feedback in case anyone else is interested in buying one of these.
I got it last month in red, 4GB version. I absolutely LOVE it! It's a great player. I have finished 4 audio books since I've got it in less than a month, which is amazing for me. I especially like the clip because my clothes often doesn't have any pockets (girl problems lol), and that clip is a life saver. Battery life on sansa is good, storage is good. I found that I dont need the card at all. It's compatible with audible, you just authorize it as your device and you can transfer all the books from audible directly through Audible Manager. No need for converting files or anything like that. I'm also using these earphones with it, and it's a marriage made in heaven. I think I will read many many audiobooks this year. ![]() |
