Presumably the OP has long titles - could be due to straplines in the title and such like, could be language, German tends to have long words, could be a small screen size - could even be all three.

@Fbone - you could try changing the font calibre uses - see Preferences->Look and Feel.

Thanks, BetterRed for the suggestion. I will try changing font.

The complete/full title doesn't appear in the Windows titlebar. For example, the following book's title is too long for the space allotted. Usually it's the books series number that is missing.

Well, in that case specifically I would suggest you put the series into the series column, and use a plugboard to put it dynamically into the title on exporting.

I use the following plugboard for any format:any device (includes custom column)

{title}{#subseries:| (|, }{#subseries_index:|Book |)}{series:| (|, }{series_index:|Book |)}

@Fbone avoid overloading title with things that are really separate variables like series. Its not necessary with calibre because it has suitable built in columns for most things and if it doesn't have something you want you can easily create your own columns.

Many subtitles and straplines don't need to be included in titles. Example: the LoC Title of one of my books is "The Bankers’ New Clothes : What’s wrong with banking and what to do about it" but I have "The Bankers’ New Clothes" in Title, the "What’s wrong with banking and what to do about it" is in a custom column called Subtitle. It just makes things 'neater', subtitles & straplines are often no more than attention seeking rhetorical flourishes.

And of course, separating the variables allows you to sort and filter based upon them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am trying to separate books by series, genres and other variables. However, it would be easier to accomplish if you could see the full title in the edit metadata program.

There isn't enough space in the main interface either. Also, I prefer not to have to keep scrolling right.

I thought there was a way to customize the Edit Metadata to display the entire book title somewhere. Then I can fill in columns, add covers and make corrections all in one place. Hit Next and go on to the next book. Theducks said the title appears in the Windows toolbar but it doesn't but perhaps it can with a simple update.

Preferences | Behavior | Edit metadata (single) layout maybe?

If you hide the Tag Browser and Book Details (bottom right icons) then you can make the Title column pretty wide.

It is already in the title field, just use that. As PeterT said, you can mke custom metadata appear in the same tab if you need.

The toolbar has limited space -- if the title overflows, what update could fix that?
