Just want to send a heads up to anyone who has updated to IOS 8.1.3 and uses Scribd: I am advising not to install the latest Scribd app update. I have contacted Scribd. The update renders the app nonfunctional on my two devices with IOS 8.1.3. Scribd 3.9 runs just fine on my iPhone 5, which is still running 8.1.2. Considering Scribd is a subscription service, this is unacceptable. I actually urged them to pull this update from the Apple Store until they fix this. I use this app a great deal and this is very disappointing.
Hehe, can a moderator please edit my thread title to Scribd? |

Scribd app update 3.9.1 installed Feb 27th. All of my devices now have iOS 8.1.3.
The app continues to freeze frequently when I try to perform any function with it. It can take a full minute to turn a page in a book, or navigate from one screen to another, or do pretty much anything else. It also freezes this way when I'm browsing the book selection. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help. This happens on an iPad 2, iPad mini, and iphone 5. I can read without the freezes if I disconnect from the Internet. I have provided this information in feedback. I really like the selection and service, so I do hope Scribd is making an effort to fix this. 3.9.1 was supposed to be a fix for the crashes people were experiencing with 3.9. I have seen very little, if any change with 3.9.1. Last edited by 49Kat; 03-13-2015 at 02:05 AM. |

I did. Still having the same problem. The app functions freeze periodically, and the freeze lasts about a minute. Most of the time, it freezes when I try to go to the next page of a book. Same with any function, such as browsing the selections or going from one screen to the next. Or setting a bookmark. Or trying to exit the book. Three devices, same behavior, all devices updated to 8.2.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times. I tried making sure the app was only open on one device at a time. I tried having only one book saved to the device at a time. The only time I can read a book smoothly is if the entire device is offline...and that's kind of inconvenient. I am not the only one reporting this issue. I've been in contact with Scribd support, but it's been a while since I heard back. Scribd used to be my favorite app before this started. Last edited by 49Kat; 03-18-2015 at 06:35 PM. |

I was being called away as I was trying to complete that last post.
![]() As I was saying...I love the subscription service, I love the book selection. I used the app and the service a lot, and now I find myself not using it much anymore because the constant freezing is just annoying. I am looking forward to this problem being resolved because the app is just not enjoyable to use anymore. I know I can disconnect from the internet to read, but I don't think I should have to do that, since this is a new wrinkle, and I know the app and the service is capable of better performance than that. |

Hope this doesn't start happening on my iPhone 6. I mostly use Scribd on my Fire HDX, but have spent a fair amount of time using it on the iPhone lately too. Not a huge overall fan of their apps as is, but I've never had it freeze on me thank goodness.

I've been timing the freezes with a stopwatch, since I hadn't actually done that. Just noticed the time on my device, ie the app would get stuck and the digital time would be on the next minute by the time it got unstuck. With a stopwatch, I timed the app freezing for 15 to 25 seconds, and that's with me constantly tapping or swiping (trying to turn a page or bring up the table of contents, set a bookmark, or scroll up or down in browsing or change screens). It may not sound like much, but when you're reading a book and you get to the end of a page...it's a little annoying. And the app didn't behave this way before 3.9, so I know this app and service are capable of better.
Well, for now I'll deal with it as best I can. While browsing, I did come across a couple of books I want to read. ![]() |

Here's my experience with Scribd: Great selections, especially audiobooks! But very flaky on my iphone 6plus. ( Both the OS and the scribd app are right up to date. ) Problems with audiobooks include freezes between chapters, bookmarks not always being retained, and downloading stopping and starting (on wifi . . I've disabled cellular). Also, as to downloading, the queue seems rigid; order can't be changed, and, as I said, it sometimes freezes and won't do anything.
The good news: I've just started using it on a Kindle Fire (android) and it seems to work much better, though its too soon to say for sure. Unfortunately, if scribd is going to work for me, it has to work on the iphone. Tech support is courteous, but slow. Most important, not that helpful. Same old suggestions: log out and in, uninstall and re-install, etc. I had a round of this in the late fall, with no useful results, and am just circling back to it now. I think the tech people would be great if theyhad answers, but they don't. In short, I'm very discouraged and looking for alternatives. |
