Phone with Android 4.4.2 and no "Use SD Card" button

Hi,

I've just purchased a new phone (Elephone P3000S) with Android 4.4.2 and, when I try to modify the folder where I store the books, no "Use SD Card" button appears. My default language is Spanish, but it is the same in my Galaxy Tab, and the button appears there.

From previous reports I think this happens if the SD card was formatted and used in a different phone. Kitkat does all sorts of weird things with permissions, and apparently the "user" that creates folders can differ between phones.

Things to try in increasing order of destructiveness.

Remove the folder Android.data.com.multipie.calibreandroid
Remove the Android folder. Of course, this will remove data from other apps (if there is any)
Reformat the SD card and try again.

You can also try checking the advanced option "SD Cards on Android 4.4+" (Tarjetas SD en Android 4.4+) at the bottom of the settings. The problem is that if the permissions are wrong then manually navigating to the folder won't fix anything.

Apps don't have full SD access with KitKat. That's probably why.

I have no structure there, the files aren't hidden, another apps are able to write to SD-CARD... but no "SD Card" button appears. (I formatted the card too). I don't know anything else to do.

The SD Card button will appear only if the appropriate folders exist and if CC can read and write those folders. To be precise, CC asks Android for a list of all the private app folders that exist. If one of those app folders is on the SD card, CC displays the button.

We received a report that one must uninstall and reinstall CC after cleaning/formatting the SD card in order for CC to see the SD card.

Yes, I've done it. No structure there, although I'm thinking... all the folders or only the calibremultipie folder? Anyway, /Android/data exists but no new button appears.

I don't understand.

The steps I would try:

Uninstall CC
Ensure that the SD card is in the device
Format the SD card using the device
Reinstall CC.

At this point the folder Android/data/com.multipie.calibreandroid should exist.

My suspicion is that it is /Android that is causing the problems.

I've done the three first steps (uninstall and erase all the data, as there's no format option in setup), and the only folders in SD card are LOST.DIR and system_update. I install calibre companion and there's no additional folder.

Well, it doesn't matter, with you last hint, I've created the folder, I've used the advanced options for selecting the folder, and my books are in my SD-Card. A workaround, as it is called at work

With the new 5" screen, calibre companion looks gorgeous, thank you.

The format is really required because Android stores user information in some hidden place. The fact that you aren't seeing the the private folder supports the theory that Android is refusing to create it.

See here and here for some instructions on how to format an SD card in Android.

Beyond this I have no idea. What I can say with certainty is that Android is refusing to provide CC with the path to the SD card.
