The Alchemist's Secret by British author Scott Mariani (SYKM, Wikipedia) is the 1st novel in his Ben Hope series of Da Vinci Code-esque conspiracy action thrillers starring the eponymous ex-SAS operative cum former theology student, this one the obligatory plot chasing after the historical thingamajig guarded by the secret code doohickey which needs to be deciphered and which was also tied back to ye olde cover-ups by the Nazis and the Vatican and having all sorts of competing modern parties also after the world changing whatchamacallit yadda yadda yadda, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher HarperCollins' Avon imprint.

This is also known by the title The Fulcanelli Manuscript, and apparently the series has made it all the way up to 14 installments, which is kind of impressive considering that eventually one must run out of secret historical groups and reasonably prominent enigmatic figures to provide the requisite shadowy background legacy and names. Unless one starts making them up entirely, that is.
