I am a confused ereader
I hope somebody can please guide me where to look for the information that I need. I download lots of books from Amazon and have for quite a while. I use calibre to convert them to epub and remove drm. But now I find that the drm removal isn't working?? I recently updated calibe to version 2.18 if that makes a difference.Do I need to get new plugins or something like that...and where do I look for that? I am currently using the older ones that I got from alf. I think I do need some advice here

As we are not allowed to discuss specifics of DRM removal here (at MR), I would suggest you post your question at Alf's place where you can get the help you need.

I just went to the link's site..where the blog is. But when I downloaded (following the careful directions) my computer popped up a malicious site warning and chrome blocked tools_v6.1.0.zip. Any idea why??

Because Google Chrome has mentally retarded security settings? Known problem...
If the download contains exes/dlls/etc. and Google hasn't seen it a lot before, they will randomly accuse it of being theoretically dangerous (not hard) and protect you from the possibility of being a braindead luser, because Google has great faith in the intelligence of the masses. ![]() Naturally, this only blocks unknown mysterious code, and doesn't block known dangerous code. ![]() This is but one reason why I prefer Firefox to Chrome. Not because Chrome is a bad browser for doing its job, simply because I don't want to fight with it to convince it I know what I am doing... |

Alright, I have another question...since I am a pretty basic novice user, would it be possible for me to just go back to an earlier version of calibre? Would everything work like it did before, when my books from amazon use to convert to epub without any problem? I don't really mind the problems with barnes and noble....I don't buy from them any more.

You might be able to get Chrome to stop yammering if you go to settings and uncheck Always Save To (folder).
Or use another browser. Sadly, even Internet Explorer is better for this. ![]() |

I suspect the oldness thing has to do with an outdated plugin that doesn't work with calibre2.x and the current Qt5 toolkit.
