WiFi - can't connect - 'need more scatter'
Hi,
I have a rooted, jailbroken KT2 with FW 5.6.1.0.2 and active debug-interface In my homenetwork kindle connects properly with wlan. Now I tried it in another network and the kindle will not connect properly. We tried a lot diffrent networks and settings, but with no success. In the Wlan-menu always the message appears: 'Network-Error' [*standard-trouble-blabla -> contact support* ] But over the debug-interface i got this: Code:
[root@kindle /etc]# ifconfig wlan0 wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr A0:02:DC:71:03:C4 inet addr:172.16.10.115 Bcast:172.16.15.255 Mask:255.255.248.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:1028 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:283 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:315701 (308.3 KiB) TX bytes:11136 (10.8 KiB) I can ping from the kindle to other members in the network Code:
[root@kindle /etc]# ping 172.16.10.65 PING 172.16.10.65 (172.16.10.65): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 172.16.10.65: seq=0 ttl=128 time=30.465 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.10.65: seq=1 ttl=128 Ð¥µ•õ53.978 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.10.65: seq=2 ttl=128 time=94.988 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.10.65: seq=3 ttl=128 time=31.411 ms after deactivating flightmode, i get this message: Code:
[root@kindle /etc]# info hardware:no_wan::WiFi only device. No WAN found info board_data_file :/opt/ar6k/target/AR6003/hw2.1.1/bin/wario/bourbon/wfo/AR60 03_wfo_calfile.bin:: [10693.981957] ath6kl: ath6kl_fetch_board_file: Board calibration file fetched: /opt/ar6k/target/AR6003/hw2.1.1/bin/wario/bourbon/wfo/AR6003_wfo_calfile.bin [10694.035373] ath6kl: MAC from kernel xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:C4 [10694.048622] ath6kl: temporary war to avoid sdio crc error [10694.451261] ath6kl: host only supports scatter of :1 entries, need: 16 Online I found nothing helpful... I think its not advisable to contact the amazon-support direct with an 'hacked' kindle, so can anyone else help? |

Contact Amazon support, just like the Amazon message says.
Nothing about the jailbreak is involved, and if you don't tell them .... use the ;dm command in the search bar of the Kindle to make the logs visible, and use that as the source of information when working with CS rather than what you see over the serial port (which, of course, you haven't made any connections to ). well, Amazon has no Support-Technicans or no Technicans in their Support-section
![]() In sum the Support-replay was "It's a Networkproblem, the kindle works" It looks like the kindle is only able to handle c-class networks. The netmask is the only difference in the network-settings. And in a Homenetwork (192.168.0.x /24) the kindle works properly. But I found no information about that in the Datasheet and the support also can't say anything to this question (typical reply: "it supports b/g/n") what have I learned: if google did no have an answer, neither the support ![]() |

As you're from Germany, too: Is that non-working wireless network by chance operating on channels 12/13? Or a HT40+ (802.11n, claiming +1 channel) network on channel 11? Those sdio/scatter errors are only an interfacing matter between host chipset and Wifi chipset. Might lead to a speed degradation, but shouldn't really interfere with Wifi operation.

(By make and model if possible.) Why? Because a lot of routers / network translators are limited to (or set by their operator to) only handle /24 IP address ranges. |

so, reasonably healthy again
![]() first: as hawhill said: the scatter error didn't affect the wifi connection. Got the same Message by using it in a working homenetwork. second: the Message: ' not connected' in the Wlan-Settings is 'Amazon-style': if the kindle is connected to wlan but not to internet its 'not connected' third: the testnetwork is set up by a Cisco Air-Cap2602 and with full access to all router settings, so the Problem is definitive not caused by restricted settings. with the cisco router I can connect the kindle in a 192.168.2.x /24 with no internet-access (testnetwork), but if I change the addressrange to a larger area, using IP 172.11.16.28 with subnetmask: 255.255.248.0 than i get a 'Wlan-Error' Message Window by conneting. BUT as long as i stay in this Error-Window the Kindle is connected with the network and it is possible to use - I am running a VNC-viewer by now ![]() So problem solved, work done but still feeling like a monkey on a anthill *don't know why, but it works...* ![]() *the last pic is the verification, that vnc-connection is still online, when I remove the USBnetwork, which I used to control the Kindle Last edited by volkaoth; 02-12-2015 at 09:33 AM. |

If you want network without internet access you have to spoof certain Amazon servers, you need to spoof dns + serve certain stuff over http.

If I connect to a valid (c-class) network without internetaccess. The Kindle infowindow tells something like: "...connected to wlan-network, but no internet access..." My problemcase is, that the Kindle has a connection to wlan (greater networkclass-IP), in this case it doesn't matter if the network provides internetaccess and the messagewindow shows "WlanError - could not connect to network" - but while this message is open the kindle has full wlan-access. And if the messagewindow is closed it drops the connection. |
