Can't read a few books after transfering to cc
I'm not sure how to go about determining where this problem is happening.
I have several epub ebooks in Calibre that I can click on and they read fine on my Windows 7 pc from within Calibre. They also read fine in the Icecream Ebook epub reader on my pc. I transfer them to CC and the transfer appears to be fine. But none of the ereader apps I have on my tablet (Nexus 7 2013) can read them - I have Mantano, PocketBook and FBReader. They are old books, so I don't know what format they started in when I first got them and maybe converted them. Of course, they are out of "print" and are by a couple of my favorite authors, or I'd just shrug and not worry about it. I'm not sure whether there is an error in the books themselves, or in the transfer somehow or possibly all 3 of my ebook reader apps have the same front end. If anyone can show me a starting point, I'd really appreciate it. |

What do the reader apps say?
CC doesn't touch the contents of the book file. However, calibre will to update the metadata, which changes the book. Try saving a book to a folder device on your PC then check if you can still read it with Icecream. You could also try an epub-to-epub conversion. This often fixes pathological markup in books. You might want to save the original, which calibre will do for you if you don't already have an "original_epub" format. To be absolutely sure that CC is not involved, you could transfer the book (from the folder device, not from your library) using some other method (file explorer & cable, dropbox, etc), then open the book directly with one of the readers. If this works then I will need the copy that works and the copy that doesn't to find out what is going wrong. |

Ok, I just did an epub to epub conversion on one of the books (thought I'd done that already). Anyway, that is working through CC. Obviously it is something in that book as Calibre took longer than usual to convert it.
FYI, before I converted, I transferred the book through the cable and then reading it on Pocketbook did work, even though cc didn't. Thanks for the ideas, you are so quick to respond - I really appreciate it. I'll reconvert all the other books and let you know if there is a problem afterwards. Quote:
