Pasting from grid columns very slow

I've run into an oddity in Calibre 2.19 (64-bit). It has to do with a very slow paste from the clipboard.
If the clipboard contains text from another application, or from a field in the Edit Metadata dialogue, pasting takes no more time than normal.
However, if I select a field (the contents of a column on a row) of the main book list, open the field for editing (for example by pressing F2 or by clicking in the field), and copy the contents of that field to the clipboard, pasting it anywhere takes a very long time. That includes:

Pasting to a field in the Edit Metadata dialogue
Pasting to a field in any Calibre dialogue
Pasting into another application

I'm wondering if this is new behavior to recent versions; and is it something that can be eliminated?

@MikeMJ - possibly a third party program getting in the way. If you run any clipboard related gadgets, e.g. extended clipboard storage, markup scrubbing, auto searching etc... try disabling/exiting them.

And/or try running calibre in Safe Mode with no network.
