Question for those who have 2000+ books
Hi
I have a few questions. I have just over 2000 books how long should your device take to "process content" the first time you are loading books ? Is it normal to take that long every time you switch on the reader? if not how long should it take? Im using calibre but my books keep disappearing on the reader. Thanks in advance ive had nothing but trouble getting books on this damn thing so confused ![]() |

I believe it should take quite some time the first time, but afterward it will be in the database and should not require any time at all.
Disappearing books sounds odd. ![]() |

I have over 7000 books on my AuraHD, but I keep them away from Kobo's processing and they are available right away. Also, a number of the books and documents that I read on my AuraHD would be rejected by the Kobo processing and hang-up the procedure. If I wanted to read them using the stock reading software, I would have to convert some to a format that Kobo uses, and some, that are in an included format already, I would have to find out what the Kobo Nickel processing is objecting to and fix it. There is probably a few of your 2000 that Nickel is rejecting and that can make it take a very long time indeed.
If you can live without the stats and Kobo "Rewards" You might want to consider adding an Alternative Reader and have calibre place your books into a Hidden folder on your device. (See the note at the bottom of that post) Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 02-10-2015 at 04:46 PM. |

Best not to even try to process 2000 at once. Load them in batches of 100, and check after each batch that they have all been processed before loading the next batch.
Also if you have just got the device, I'd recommend only loading a few books to start with until you are used to how it works. You might decide you want to change something that requires reloading all the books, and it would be painful to have to reload all 2000. |

And as others have said, I'd load smaller batches of your book at a time until you have them all on. A badly formatted book could be causing problems, and it would be easier to find in smaller batches. |

Also if your books are on an SD card there have at times been issues; if the card is removed, or not recognized on startup, Kobo will remove them from the library and then reprocess them when the card is recognized.

When you are processing a large number of eBooks in one batch, you want to keep the Kobo plugged into a outlet powered USB port. That kind or processing can easily drain the battery.

I'd strongly suggest using Flightcrew and/or epubcheck to check your ebooks for errors before loading them on your Kobo. A badly constructed epub can hang the processing ot cause errors including causing database corruption. Even commercially produced epubs are often a dog's breakfast of errors. Until you know that your epub collection is standards compliant, I'd suggest loading small batches to make it easier to find the troublemakers. I keep all my sideloaded ebooks on the external uSD card. Makes it handier to remove when doing a factory reset either intentional or otherwise. Use davidfor's Kobo Utilities plugin for Calibre to check your database for errors, compress it and back it up. Otherwise use a SQLite database utility (at this time, I use SQLite Expert Personal 3) and get comfortable with checking, vacuuming and reindexing. Last edited by DNSB; 02-10-2015 at 11:44 PM. |
