Which version of ADE in FW 3.12.1?
That's the question, really.
I'm trying to nut out some documents I'm formatting as ePubs for my own use, but which display some features differently (and unexpectedly) in ADE from how Sigil or the Firefox plugin display them. I'd like to at least see in ADE what I'm going to see on my Aura HD, so with my latest re-install of Windows I'd like to install the version of ADE that runs on my Kobo. Which one should I install? |

Kobo devices don't come with ADE as such, they come with an epub reader based on Adobe's RMSDK. The features of Kobo's epub reader don't necessarily correspond exactly to any particular version of ADE, because there are a lot more versions of the RMSDK than there are versions of ADE. I think the closest would be ADE 3.0 since that was released at around the time the Kobo firmware last updated the RMSDK.
I don't know exactly which version of the RMSDK is used, but it was last updated to one of the RMSDK 10 versions in firmware version 3.5.0, and it hasn't been updated since. i.e. the RMSDK in firmware 3.13.1 is exactly the same as the one in firmware version 3.5.0. Edit: Beware that if you use ADE 3.0 you may receive books using the a new DRM scheme sometime in the future, and once you receive a book in the new scheme you probably won't be able to download it in the old scheme. So if removing DRM is important to you, dont use ADE 3.0 or later to download books. Last edited by GeoffR; 03-02-2015 at 07:20 AM. Reason: Beware ... |

Thanks for that, Geoff. Much appreciated.
(I'm a bit confused, still, why there's a folder on the device called .adobe.digital.editions, and another called Digital Editions. Are they just for synch purposes with the desktop software for managing DRM?) I appreciate the warning about the more recent versions of the ADE. I'm not a fan of ADE, to be honest, but it's kinda unavoidable. I've just had to do a refit of my PC, as it happens, and was uncertain hich version to install, so your warning is timely.
