My Secret Garden: Women's Sexual Fantasies by noted feminist author Nancy Friday (Wikipedia) is her vintage classic compilation (Wikipedia) of Exactly What It Says In The Title, which was a ground-breaking early modern sociological/quasi-literary work on female sexuality, free courtesy of publisher RosettaBooks, who are e-printing it in a modified version from its original 1973 Trident Press hardcover edition, which has since been paperbacked many times over the decades by Pocket Books.
This is RosettaBooks' selected freebie for February 6th as part of their (probably) countdown giveaway towards Valentine's Day. Their e-edition also incorporates a retrospective foreword by the author which probably originally appeared in the 1998 Quartet reprinting, which the Library Journal review says is a 25th anniversary edition which includes "a new introduction by the author and a few new fantasies". Currently free, just for today @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK, and actually seems to be free worldwide when I spot-check random regional stores like Japan and Brazil). Doesn't seem to be available in any of the other usual retailers, as RosettaBooks has a number of titles exclusive with Amazon and this seems to be one of them. OTOH, it's DRM-free over there. And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because not only am I pleased to see RosettaBooks continuing to resume their (probably) daily freebie holiday countdown giveaway after having skipped the 4th, but they're also generously giving away a majorly important pioneering classic in its field which was apparently quite influential upon the stuff that followed after. ![]() I'd heard about this for years and was curious enough to want to try it, but never actually went around to getting it out of the library to read, and now it's being offered free. Worldwide, even. And DRM-free! ![]() Enjoy! Description First published in 1973, My Secret Garden ignited a firestorm of reactions across the nation—from outrage to enthusiastic support. Collected from detailed personal interviews with hundreds of women from diverse backgrounds, this book presents a bracingly honest account of women’s inner sexual fantasy lives. In its time, this book shattered taboos and opened up a conversation about the landscape of feminine desire in a way that was unprecedented. Today, My Secret Garden remains one of the most iconic works of feminist literature of our time—and is still relevant to millions of women throughout the world.
