Font Update in Paperwhite 1

I was charging my Paperwhite 1 yesterday and switched off the screen after I disconnected it from my computer. The screen showed that it is updating the font and asked me to wait. I found it strange and switch on the screen. Nothing happened. I checked and I didn't have the Wi-Fi on. To be on the safe side, I switched on the Wi-Fi and see if there was any update available. Nothing. Maybe I broke the procedure of an update? Is there any update of fonts recently? My Paperwhite works and I don't see any difference in the fonts.

I have just had a similar sounding font update. I now find a 55 MB file in my PW1 Documents folder: デジタル大辞泉_B00771M8JQ.azw, which I presume is the updated font, plus a folder デジタル大辞泉_B00771M8JQ.sdr with four small files: AssetDownloadMetadata.meta, B00771M8JQ.mf, デジタル大辞泉_B00771M8JQ.mbs and デジタル大辞泉_B00771M8JQ.phi.

55 MB is quite a significant chunk of my PW1 memory, which I would like to recover. I am reluctant to simply delete these items as I do not know whether they are exclusively Chinese or Japanese or Korean fonts, or whether these items update all fonts.

Hello oneillpt, I think the デジタル大辞泉 (Digital Daijisen) is the Japanese dictionary that is provided by Amazon. I don't have Japanese books in my Kindle. I check the Chinese books that are in my Kindle, I don't think the Chinese fonts have any changes.

You are right. The Daijisen Japanese Dictionary has been added to my dictionaries, and marked "New". I cannot remember whether my PW1 came with this dictionary installed. If so, I may have deleted it to save storage as I cannot read Japanese, and this may be an update. Otherwise Amazon may have decided to provide this dictionary to owners who did not have it. The font update I noticed is presumably needed for this dictionary. Either way I guess it is safe to delete it.
