My library died and now it sees ghosts.
For whatever reason, my personal library became corrupted. I renamed the old library and then I went through the process of creating a new library and then adding the files. 2-3 hours later, it said there were duplicates. This was puzzling to me because there weren't any before. So, I let it run and it duplicated most books. As far as I can tell, if there are two formats for a book (mobi & epub), it sees the second format as a duplicate and created another file. I have 2 formats for 75% of my library because we use both kindle and epub readers. Any ideas? I did upgrade Calibre before I created the replacement library. Did a setting change?

First, Eschwartz, you are absolutely right!! Thanks so much! I'd hoped the solution was simple and just operator error. The 2-3 hours weren't a waste. I was reading a book while it did its work and I will just do that again.
BetterRed, thanks so much! Just to be clear, Calibre would no longer find my library. Would Library Maintenance been able to get past that problem? This is the second time this has happened, although the first time occurred when moving the library from one computer to another. Last edited by Tarana; 02-03-2015 at 06:44 PM. |

Did you try opening the library as though it was a new one, i.e. through the Library dropdown ==> Switch/create library?
If it cannot find a metadata.db file there, then creating a blank file called metadata.db should allow calibre to open the folder... and then demand to rebuild the database when it cannot read it as a valid database. Last edited by eschwartz; 02-03-2015 at 06:55 PM. |
