1 GB free from Dropbox

Dropbox has a new mailbox app that will get you 1 GB free extra storage when you install it and sign in to Dropbox with it. You don't even have to add an email address to get the free storage. If you don't already have a Dropbox account, use the link in my sig and get an extra 500 MB.

This has been available for quite some time... I got this bonus a year ago according to my account details.

You can also get a 3GB bonus for using Carousel -- this is the same one that was temporarily available during the Camera Uploads beta feature, so you won't be able to get it again if you already got that one.

I got an email from dropbox about this just before posting so I thought it was new. I wonder why they sent the email since it's not new. I did get the Camera upload bonus already, thanks.

Who knows why they only saw fit to email you now...

Even the Android version which everyone was waiting for, was out since April of last year.

Thanks for this! When I checked my account I had claimed the 1 GB from the Camera Update but saw I just had to add Carousel to get the extra 2 GB

Oh, cool -- didn't realize the original bonus was only 1GB.

I originally missed the Camera Upload, and the help page claims that it is the same bonus, just with a new way to claim it...

Edit: No, the Camera Upload did a match-your-usage thing, right? Up to three GB I guess.

Thanks everyone. Hadn't thought about Dropbox in years, but apparently did the Carousel upgrade to 3 gig about 3 years ago. Did the mailbox thing just now for another gig, and a ten second tour for another 250mg, so I'm now at 4.3 gig.

P.S. The Carousel thing is 3GB added onto the base 2 GB plus 1GB from the mailboxapp, so you should have 6GB. Perhaps you didn't either do as much during the Camera Upload promo. Try installing Carousel.

Thanks! It showed that I had Carousel, but I guess I had only signed up for it and never ran it. Once I ran it I jumped up to 6.9 GB. Not sure if I'll ever use Dropbox, but it can't hurt to have it.

Thanks so much for mentioning the carousel app thingy. I now have 6.5.

I have always wished for them to have a smaller plan. I'd like 20-25 GB. I like how the integration works and all that, but I don't do referral stuff so I just want to pay and get what I want. I don't need the gazillion GB plan they have for $10 a month. I don't get why they don't offer some much smaller ones.

So I just have to keep hunting down these app offers. Maybe another 2 years and then I can finally really use it for my backups. Right now, its just enough for pics and some other thingies. But I like it best of the storage I tried so there is that.

Let me throw this out there, because I wasn't aware of it myself. If you have a Samsung phone (maybe tablet too), the "Get Started" bonus changes from 250MB to 48GB! I discovered this when I activated Dropbox on my phone and suddenly it's telling me I get a bonus. It most likely only applies to Samsung devices that come with Dropbox pre-installed. Still got to do all these steps to get it though:

Take the Dropbox tour
Install Dropbox on your computer
Put files in your Dropbox folder
Install Dropbox on other computers you use
Share a folder with friends or colleagues
Invite some friends to join Dropbox
Install Dropbox on your mobile device

This makes doing all the steps well worth it.

Edit: I misread, you don't have to do every single one, I only did the ones italicized above and got the 48GB added.

I believe they offer a two-year bonus for certain devices (you can just login from a pre-existing account), but you will drop down to the regular amount afterwards.

The Getting Started steps have always required "pick any five to do" -- and I am not surprised you must do the Getting Started stuff before qualifying for the two-year bonus.

Yeah, I just did Mom's for her, since she also has a Samsung phone, and noticed hers says for 24 months. Still, not too shabby for free.
