Hi all
I am using kindle app on Ipad Air(iOS 8) and Google Chrome. The issue I am having is that whenever I add the .mobi book through Dropbox into Kindle app on Ipad, it appears under 'Docs' and not under 'Books' I checked the net and tried lot of methods of removing PDOC tag, adding EBOK tag through calibre. Also tried mobi2mobi method, but no luck so far. Adding books through Amazon appear under 'Books'. Any suggestions how to fix this ? I would want to appear it under 'Books' then sync it with Chrome app to continue reading. Haven't tried adding through iTunes yet |

First of all you can't add books to the kindle app via iTunes. Anything you add to the app yourself will be treated as a personal document and will go into Docs, even if you email the book to Amazon and download it via the cloud it will still go into Docs.
I have no idea how you could fool the kindle app into thinking your book is from Amazon as that was what you would need to be do for a book to appear in Books. |

You certainly can. You just have to click on apps, then file sharing, pick the Kindle app, then drag files into the window that appears. It may appear as a doc, but in the (older) version of the app I have on my iPod, it appears in the library of books, just like my Amazon books. In fact, there is no choice for docs in the version I have. My iPod cannot run the latest version of the app. Maybe a newer version of the app changed how books are displayed on the home page?

I tried the iTunes thing today, but no luck. They again appear under Docs
Looks like only books bought from Amazon appear as books. Anything else added just goes under Docs. I would have loved having all my .mobi as Kindle books shared across devices and able to share quotes on Facebook/Twitter. Doesn't seem plausible with Kindle though, by design :'( |

If you added them through Dropbox they wouldn't sync anyway.
Only books from Amazon and books emailed to Send-to-Kindle will sync across devices. |

No, I even tried mailing them. But they again go to the 'Docs' section.
And Kindle cloud reader, Kindle for PC etc., don't make those files available. Only the 'Books' are available and only the books bought through Amazon appear as Books. It looks like people having "Kindle Fire" can simply drop books into a particular folder which makes them appear under 'Books' but 'Docs' are not available on Kindle cloud reader and Kindle for PC Last edited by luvshines; 01-25-2015 at 12:47 PM. |

Did I in any way imply that mailing them would make them appear as Books?
No, I merely pointed out that is the only way to sync them... |

Moved to the Ipad forum, where questions on the Ipad are located.

Kindle Cloud Reader and Kindle for PC are excluded from Send-to-Kindle books. None of them will appear for download/reading. Although I think I have heard that downloading for another device and adding the file to Kindle for PC will allow it to sync, still, that is a ridiculously awkward workaround.
The reason appears to be a closely guarded mystery. ![]() Only the smartphone/tablet apps and the Kindle devices (Fire/E-ink/Phone I guess) will download Send-to-Kindle books. And this is a totally separate issue to the question of the PDOC vs. EBOK classification. (Worth noting that Send-to-Kindle books are ALWAYS classified as PDOC, on any device. But usually they still show under Books.) |
