Kindle Fire 6HD size?
I have a question about the Kindle fire HD6 with 6" screen. It looks (from pics on Amazon) like it's about the same size as the Paperwhite (though a bit thicker) is that about right? Or is it just a bit bigger in general?

Hi,
The HD6 is thicker and heavier. The screen is not as wide as the pw2. Both of my girls have one. I will try and take a picture as soon as I can, showing the 6 on top of my pw to give you a better idea. HTH, Penny |

Thanks tubemonkey. I thought they looked to be about the same height & width but I wasn't sure. It will be good to be able to see things in color.

I think you'll be very happy with the Fire HD6, crich! I was surprised at the screen quality and usefulness of a smaller tablet. I have no problems reading e-books on it.

I have a 7" HD and recently purchased the 6HD....best $100 I have spent recently, spend the extra $20 and get the 16G. I was able to get the 16G on sale. Happy reading! |

Does anyone read with that weird green background? If I had to read on a tablet, I'd use sepia.

That's not what I meant. Fire tablets have 4 background color choices -- white, black, sepia, green. I have no idea why someone would read on a light green background.

probably looks like vomit, though. old CRT monitors in the early 80s were green. not many were sold. |

I don't think RGBG has ever been used on an LCD, only OLED. The few pentile LCDs that motorola used briefly were RGBW. LCDs are almost universally RGB displays.
Green and yellow (found in sepia) are notable for not using the blue light, which induces eye strain in some and can disrupt sleep. Red is less commonly used because while it has no negative physiological consequences, it does have unrelaxing psychological connections. I'm fairly certain that's the rationale for this new green option, even if this particular implementation sounds odd. This one would be for people who don't like yellow (I've heard a number of folks complain about their backlight kindles being too warm and yellowish, though I'd be thrilled to get a super warm one). I'd also be tickled pink if kindle software offered a green foreground on black background option. My very first grayscale PDA, which was also my first ereader using peanut press/palmdigitalmedia/ereader.com, had a greenish backlight that only illuminated the foreground. In a reader, that meant only the lettering glowed. It was delightful. I've worked to get that scheme on every LCD I've had since, but of course I've to use 3rd party software. |

I had tried the green and didn't like it. After reading burnafterreading's comment, I tried it again last night with the brightness turned all the way down. I loved it. You get used to the green quickly (it is not as bright) and get to the point you don't even see it. Now that I have used it, I wish they had the option in the iOS app.
