Conditional reverse links? (depending on path)
I'm creating a book where I would like to return from the end of a chapter (xhtml file) to the page that got me there (by link). Is that possible?
What I am doing is this: - Subject area A --- Chapter X --- Chapter Y - Subject Area B --- Chapter Z --- Chapter X (same as the above X, duplicate in listings, uniqe in actual xhtml-file) Each "Subject" page has a list of chapters. Some chapters can be in more than one Subject. All chapters are unique and has nothing to do with each other. After reading a chapter, I would like to return to the Subject page I started from. |

I don't think it's possible without scripting.

As Jellby said, this cannot be done without scripting.
The first request you can accomplish by adding doing this: <a href="javascript:history.back();">Back</a> |

Ok, thanks.
Is javascript available in todays epub 2-readers or is that a epub 3 feature? (I googled a bit but found mostly hits in epub 3 docs.) Edit: Just tried this on my Kobo Aura HD, nothing seems to happen. Do I need to do something else to get scripting to work, or is it not yet available? Edit 2: Looking at http://epubtest.org/ it seems Kobo is not supporting much of javascript.... Last edited by patrik; 01-21-2015 at 12:43 PM. Reason: added info |

Scripting is not supported in ePub 2. Some readers have a back button but many do not. ePub 3 does support scripting but there are only a few ePub 3 readers available.
If there is a finite number of cases for this you could have multiple links to do the return and the user could then select the one they wanted. Dale |
